Applying for a Student Loan

The First Step in the Loan Process

To apply for a subsidized or unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can complete the FAFSA online or you can obtain a paper copy from your high school counselor, the school you plan to attend, or by calling (800) 4FEDAID.

What's next?

Your school will determine your eligibility for student loans once you have submitted your FAFSA. Schools are responsible for informing you of the type and amount of aid you are eligible to receive.

Types of Student Loans
