Draft Cross-Disciplinary Competencies and Feedback
The draft cross-disciplinary competencies document is the product of the Curriculum Alignment Initiative's (CAI) Cross-Disciplinary Workgroup. The workgroup was charged with drafting a set of competencies that were considered to be foundational knowledge, cross-cutting specific disciplines, in the following areas:
- Key Cognitive Skills or "Habits of Mind" (e.g. critical thinking, positive work habits)
- Reading and Writing
- Technology and Information Literacy
Every discipline workgroup identified these competencies as important in developing a foundation for content knowledge and critical for collegiate success. The competencies articulated in the discipline areas are useless if the student entering the course does not have the ability to effectively read the material being presented or adequately and ethically utilize technology in their students.
These documents are in draft form; they are intended to facilitate feedback and dialogue, and may be subject to revision—they are not in their final form.
Public constituents and CAI participants are encouraged to provide feedback and submit comments for review by the Cross-Disciplinary workgroup.
The public comment period for the Cross-Disciplinary competencies has been extended through January 31, 2009.
Email us your comments or questions using the form below and we will forward them to the appropriate workgroup or the Steering Committee.
