Market Demand:

The Sport Management major uses an interdisciplinary approach with the business division and the increasingly popular world of sport. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the field will increase faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2014 as the general public continues to participate in organized sports for entertainment, recreation, and physical conditioning.

Societal Need:

Society has become increasingly involved in sports as entertainment and recreation.

Admission inquiries and published national reports.

Residency requirements: Requirements same as all Culver-Stockton College graduates (30 of last 45 hours must be completed in residency)

Student Preparation: A 2.50 cumulative gpa will be required prior to enrollment in the professional internship.
Characteristics of a specific population to be served: 2.50 gpa for professional internship.

Faculty Characteristics: Faculty from the areas of business and physical education/sport management will instruct the courses included in the major. Faculty will meet the guidelines established by the HLC for College Instructors. Faculty will be members of the Division of Business and the Division of Education and Applied Arts.
Estimated percentage of credit hours that will be assigned to full time faculty. 90%
Faculty will meet the expectations for professional activities, special student contact, teaching/learning innovation required of all Culver-Stockton College faculty.

Program Accreditation:
Culver-Stockton College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. There are no plans to seek specialized accreditation.

Institutional Characteristics: Culver-Stockton College will not use any additional resources to offer this major. The multi-disciplinary work in business, physical education and sport management will broaden the opportunities for graduates in pursuing professional opportunities.
