Student Demand:

The BFA Musical Theatre is a degree that has evolved over the last ten years with the increased emphasis on multi-disciplinary work in theatre, music, and dance. It is recommended for students wishing to pursue graduate studies or professional work in theatre. Students who complete this degree will be fully prepared for Master of Fine Arts degrees in musical theatre, acting, vocal performance and directing. Other areas of graduate study that would be open to BFA Musical Theatre graduates include theatrical design, arts management, playwriting, theatre history, dramatic criticism/theory, and performance studies.

There are only three BFA in Musical Theatre programs in Missouri. Enrollment in the BFA Musical Theatre will not be capped in the future.

Market Demand:

Students should be prepared to pursue Master of Fine Arts degrees in musical theatre, acting, vocal performance and directing. Employment in the field is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through 2014 (U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.)

Societal Need:

Students with liberal arts backgrounds are pursuing graduate studies and professional work in theatre to enhance fine arts offerings in society.

Residency requirements: Requirements same as all Culver-Stockton College graduates (30 of last 45 hours must be completed in residency)
