Research Associate I - Governmental Affairs

Responsibilities: The incumbent reports to and aids the Deputy Commissioner in fulfilling all legislative functions of the department. The Research Associate I tracks all higher education legislation, which includes attending legislative hearings, monitoring floor debate, responding to legislative requests for bill fiscal impact and compiling weekly reports of bill progress. The incumbent also assists in tracking the higher education budget through the appropriations process. Other duties include interfacing with elected officials to resolve constituent issues, working with the Office of Administration on legislative matters and other department fiscal affairs functions.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in addition to superior critical thinking ability are required. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience working within the legislative process.
Salary range: $29,172 – $41,016
