Draft Exit Competencies

The documents below are the part of the work of the Curriculum Alignment Initiative’s (CAI) Discipline Workgroups. The groups have been charged with developing entry- and exit-level competencies in each of their discipline areas. Please see the main CAI page for further description of the discipline workgroup and competencies definitions. We encourage those new to the work of the CAI to familiarize yourself with the information on our main page before submitting comments.

MDHE would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the participants in the discipline workgroups and the particular assistance of the discipline workgroup liaisons. All have devoted much time and effort to producing these documents.

Currently, the drafts posted here for public review and comment are the exit-level competencies, articulating the competencies and skills a student is expected to have mastered upon completion of certain, prioritized entry level, general education courses. There are a total of 13 exit-level course competencies drafts included below from across the discipline groups in this initial round of courses addressed.

Context

The context for the current status and intent of the draft competencies documents are as follows:

  1. The exit-level course competencies outline the essential competencies students should have mastered upon successful completion of a beginning general education course.
  2. These documents are in draft form: they are intended to facilitate feedback and dialogue, and may be subject to revision—they are not in their final form.
  3. Public constituents and CAI participants are encouraged to provide feedback and submit comments for review by each of the discipline workgroups.
  4. No decisions regarding assessment or assessment methodology have been made; the first priority and mandate of legislation is to develop competencies, and it is intended that any future decisions regarding assessment will be made responsibly and in collaboration with institutions.

Instructions for Public Comment

Thank you very much for your willingness to comment on the exit-level competencies. It is critical that these competences are reviewed and feedback provided, as they have the potential to impact curriculum and instruction at the postsecondary level across all public institutions.

The public comment period for the exit-level draft competencies will last through March 3, 2008. When commenting on the public drafts, please indicate the exit-level draft competency document you are referring to or if the comment is a general one. You may use the comment form below or may email the department directly to comment at he-cai@dhe.mo.gov.
