Meeting notes - April 7, 2006
The meeting was held in conjunction with the Assessment Showcase at Central Missouri State University. Mike Grelle hosted. Dave Oehler served as historian. 1:15 Welcome, agenda preview
An Association of College & Research Libraries publication on Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education was distributed.
1:18 CAAP Presentation by David Chadima
David Chadima from ACT spoke to the group about the CAAP assessment system. There were many questions and much discussion.
2:11 April 20 CLA Meeting
Jeremy reported on the Value-Added Consortium that will be meeting in Columbia on the 20 th . Top people from RAND CAE will be there.
2:17 Assessment Showcase review
Mike asked whether we would be interested in working to expand the Assessment Showcase activity to include afternoon breakouts of faculty across institutions to collaborate on general education areas.
There was consensus that we should attempt to expand this next year.
2:29 Professional Development -- Vocabulary builders
Parthian Shot -- A hostile remark made in departing. Etymology. Parthians were expert archers. Their specialty was firing arrows while in (or pretending to be in) retreat which disrupted the enemy forces. The more descriptive term "parting shot" is a synonym.
