Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) Reporting Fall 2006 Enrollment Data
INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE EXCEL SPREADSHEET
The Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) staff is required to collect enrollment data regarding the Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) from participating Missouri postsecondary institutions. The MDHE staff will incorporate the data collected from all institutions into a report for the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC). The reporting document, a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, is the same as last year's. In order to create a more complete MHEC database, and to conduct future student and institutional surveys, MHEC needs these data elements in the Excel format. MHEC understands this format may not be possible for all schools. You can continue to submit your data in the same way you reported it last year. However, due to the amount of data, MHEC cannot incorporate your institution's information into the survey database unless it is in this Excel format. This means that MHEC will process your data for enrollment reports, however, your institution will not be represented in future surveys. For those institutions that do submit data in the Excel format, the MHEC database will ONLY be used by MHEC staff and all the information reported is confidential.
Helpful hints on completing your institution's spreadsheet:
- Student name should be reported in column one, last name in column two, street address in column three, and so on.
- Indicate whether the student is an entering or continuing student.
- The column labeled program and anticipated degree is asking for two things. The program is the major taken, such as Biology, Engineering, or Music. The anticipated degree calls for the degree type, such as Associate, BS, or BA.
- Indicate whether the student will complete their degree during the 2006-2007 academic year.
- Enter in the number of credits for which the student is enrolled for the fall 2006 term.
- Public institutions: indicate the in-state tuition; private institutions: indicate the regular tuition per credit hour.
- State the MSEP tuition rate, which should be at least 150 percent of in-state tuition for public institutions and 10 percent off of regular tuition (per credit hour) for private institutions.
- Public institutions: indicate the non-resident tuition rate; private institutions: leave this blank
- This column asks you to calculate the student's cost savings per credit hour. To do this, you subtract the MSEP rate from the non-resident rate for publics and subtract the MSEP rate from the regular rate for privates. Take this amount times the number of credits the student enrolled in and you have your cost savings. At the bottom of the spreadsheet you will need to total the cost savings for all students. (The Excel spreadsheet already has this formula entered into it. It is =sum(O11-N11)*L11.
- Remember to indicate whether the tuition is reported in semester, quarter, or some other form of hours.
- Don't forget to complete your institution name, date, state, and your name, title, phone number, and e-mail, in case we have any questions.
NOTES:
- If your tuition is based on a flat rate rather than by credit hour please make note of this. Calculate the students' cost savings using the flat rate for resident and non-resident tuition and indicate the total cost savings amount.
- The most important pieces of this spreadsheet are the student's home state of residence and the total cost savings they have received as a result of MSEP.
- If for privacy reasons you cannot provide the address, this is acceptable as long as you provide the home state of residence. The home state of residence must be an MSEP state (KS, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE or WI) that is not the state your institution is located in. For example, for KS institutions the home state of residence must be either, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND or WI. If the home state or residence listed is not one of our MSEP states please provide explanation, otherwise we cannot consider this student enrolled under MSEP. Please be sure to review your data for these discrepancies before submitting.
