Grand Prize: Bathhouse, El Real Alcazar, Sevilla, Spain – Emiley McCambridge, University of Missouri
The repetitive architecture and warm colors of this bathhouse beneath the royal palace of Sevilla creates a serene, reflective atmosphere and recalls the ornate Moorish decorations of Andalucia.
Study Abroad Category-- 3rd Place – Venice canal, Venice, Italy – Danielle Sprowl, University of Missouri
I got separated from my group on my way to Venice and got lost. Though it was a chaotic experience, I forgot my troubles after viewing the canals of Venice and sipping moscato.
Study Abroad Category-- 1st Place – Window, Brussels, Belgium – Ellen Brummer, University of Missouri
Upon arriving in Brussels, my friend went to our hotel room window and said, ‘Helloooo, Brussels!’ This moment marked the beginning of a great adventure in Belgium.
Study Abroad Category-- 2nd Place – Salt Flats, Salta, Argentina – Madeline Blasberg, University of Missouri
The vastness of the salt flats of northern Argentina is a scene reserved for those who have a spirit of adventure and playfulness. Tucked away in the corner of the country, the flats are an under-appreciated wonder of the world.
International Students Category -- 2nd Place – 1,000 Hills State Park, Kirksville – Bhupendra Subedi, Truman State University
On Thanksgiving Day my friends and I biked the wilderness of Thousand Hills State Park. The freedom and challenge pushed us forward until we realized we were lost on the shore of the lake. Thanks, rescuers; we made it to dinner on time.
International Students Category -- 1st Place – Chicago – Isabelle Ljunggren, (Sweden) Truman State University
I snapped this scene of Chicago before boarding the train to Kirksville. It’s facing the sun, which is exactly how I felt: American culture straight in my face. Big cars, big roads, tall buildings and a three-story McDonalds restaurant.
International Students Category -- 3rd Place – Statue of Liberty – Kevin Dubouis, University of Missouri
My late grandfather wanted to immigrate to America in the 1920s but he met a woman – my grandmother – who convinced him to stay in France. This view of the Statue of Liberty prompted my grandmother to wonder how our lives would have been different if my grandfather had crossed the Atlantic so many years ago.
