Personal Identification Number (PIN)

To complete your FAFSA electronically, you will need a PIN. The U.S. Department of Education will assign your PIN, and it can be used for to:

• Electronically sign your FAFSA
• Check the status of your FAFSA after you submit it
• Request a duplicate Student Aid Report (SAR)
• Log on to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)

Applying for a PIN

• www.pin.ed.gov
• Provide name, Social Security Number, date of birth, and address
• Data is matched with Social Security Administration
• Receive PIN in seven to ten days
• Remains the same each year, do not need to reapply

Electronic Delivery of PIN

• Provide email address
• Receive email about special website, including PIN key (not PIN)
• Use PIN key to access actual PIN on website
• Displayed one time only
