Personal Identification Number (PIN)
To complete your FAFSA electronically, you will need a PIN. The U.S. Department of Education will assign your PIN, and it can be used to:
- Electronically sign your FAFSA
- Check the status of your FAFSA after you submit it
- Request a duplicate Student Aid Report (SAR)
- Log on to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)
Applying for a PIN
- Visit www.pin.ed.gov
- Provide name, Social Security Number, date of birth, and address
- Data is matched with Social Security Administration
- Receive PIN in seven to ten days
- Remains the same each year, do not need to reapply
Electronic Delivery of PIN
- Provide email address
- Receive email about special website, including PIN key (not PIN)
- Use PIN key to access actual PIN on website
- Displayed one time only
